Iran hit Israel using a missile armed with cluster munitions, which scattered bomblets designed to increase casualties. The missile's warhead reportedly split open at a 4-mile altitude, releasing approximately 20 submunitions over a 5-mile radius. Cluster bombs are considered controversial because some of the submunitions can fail to explode and kill or injure long after a conflict ends.
