What are goosebumps?

Goosebumps are involuntary reaction that occurs whenever a person's sympathetic nervous system is triggered. In response, tiny muscles contract at the base of each hair follicle. This causes the hair to bristle or stand on end, resulting in tiny bumps. These can occur anywhere on the body where people have hair like on neck, arms or legs.
