In 2016, Microsoft acquired business-oriented social networking service LinkedIn in an all-cash transaction valued at $26.2 billion, in one of the biggest tech deals in the world. In 2011, Microsoft acquired Skype for $8.5 billion in cash. This week the company announced it will acquire the world's largest collaborative coding platform GitHub for $7.5 billion in an all-stock deal.
