What is sweep-in fixed deposit?

Sweep-in fixed deposit links one's savings account to a fixed deposit. One has to set a threshold balance to keep an amount readily available in a savings account. Any amount above that threshold gets automatically "swept" into a linked fixed deposit. However, if savings account needs funds, the bank "reverse sweeps" just enough from the FD to cover the shortfall.
