Female genital mutilation (FGM) is classified into 4 major types. This includes removal of clitoral glans and/or clitoral hood, removal of clitoral glans and labia minora, narrowing of vaginal opening through creation of a covering seal and all other harmful procedures to female genitalia for non-medical purposes (pricking, piercing). February 6 marks International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM.
