US President Trump has mixed up the names of several nations during his political career, most recently referring to Brazil’s presidential election result as India’s. In January 2026, he called Greenland “Iceland” at the World Economic Forum. In 2017, he referred to Namibia as “Nambia.” At the 2026 NATO summit, Trump referred to Iran as the “Islamic Republic of Japan.”
