Taxes constitute a majority of the government's income each year. Apart from tax revenue, the government also earns from dividends and profits from public sector enterprises like ONGC and Indian Oil and from interest accrued on loans it gives to states and Union Territories. Additionally, fees and charges levied on government services like passport applications also earn revenue for government.
