There are two types of cervical cancer, with most cervical cancers (up to 90%) being squamous cell carcinomas, which develop from cells in the ectocervix. The other is cervical adenocarcinoma, which develops in the glandular cells of the endocervix. Sometimes, cervical cancer has features of both squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma and is called mixed carcinoma or adenosquamous carcinoma.
