What are UNESCO Global Geoparks?

UNESCO Global Geoparks are unified geographical areas where sites that hold international geological significance are protected to ensure sustainable development. Through Geoparks, UNESCO aims to make locals aware of the geological heritage of the area, which can also lead to coming up of local enterprises and in turn generate more geo-tourism. Currently, there are 213 UNESCO Global Geoparks.
