What crimes was Bashar al-Assad accused of during his 14-year rule in Syria?
A Syrian court sentenced Bashar al-Assad to death after convicting him of crimes including killings, torture and arbitrary arrests during Syria’s 14-year civil war. According to Syrian Network for Human Rights, at least 202,000 civilians were killed by Assad regime forces, including 23,058 children. Assad’s regime also carried out chemical weapons attacks and used cluster munitions, it said.
