What do red, yellow, orange warnings issued by IMD mean?

Colour codes are used in weather warnings "for bringing out the severity of the weather phenomena expected", according to IMD. The colour codes are Yellow- Watch and stay updated, Orange- Be prepared and Red- Take action. Orange alert is for a rainfall range of 115.6-204.4 mm in a day while the range for red alert is 204.5 mm or above.
