What does 'box, box' mean in F1?
short by Pravel Jain / on Sunday, 30 November, 2025
When given as an instruction over team radio, 'box, box' tells the F1 driver to enter the pits. The term comes from the German word 'Boxenstopp', meaning pit stop, and is reportedly used because it sounds clearer than 'pit' over the radio amid background noise. Teams often say "box, box, box" multiple times to stress the urgency of the message.
