Nine Tamil Nadu policemen were sentenced to death for custodial torture and deaths of father and son in a 'rarest of rare' case. Under BNS' Section 103, if torture leads to death, officers can be charged with murder, attracting death penalty or life imprisonment. If torture doesn't result in death, then officers can face up to 7 years of imprisonment.
