What factors increase the risk of getting cervical cancer from HPV infection?

One of the factors that makes it more likely for a person who has a high-risk HPV infection of the cervix to develop cervical cancer is having a weakened immune system, according to US government's NIH. Smoking or breathing in secondhand smoke, using oral contraceptives and giving birth to many children are also associated with increased risk of cervical cancer.
