Force India remains the only Indian team to compete in F1. In 2007, Vijay Mallya and Michiel Mol bought Spyker F1 to form Force India, later renamed Sahara Force India after Sahara India Pariwar acquired a stake in 2011. Accused of fraud and loan defaults, Mallya went bankrupt, leading to the team's sale to Canadian businessman Lawrence Stroll in 2018.
