What happens if a cheque bounces?

When a cheque bounces, bank gives person who deposited it a return memo stating reason for rejection. The person who was supposed to receive money has 30 days to send legal notice demanding payment. After receiving notice, 15 days are given to settle the dues. Failing to pay within this period allows the other party to file a criminal complaint.
