A bank may be held liable for deficiency in service and unfair trade practice if it blocks a customer's debit card without informing them. In one such case, Ernakulam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission ordered Federal Bank to pay ₹1.25 lakh after it blocked a customer's debit card without notice, leaving him and his family stranded at Kuwait International Airport.
