What happens when a fly lands on food?

Houseflies, that usually eat garbage and rotting animal carcasses, usually take about a second to transfer germs from their body to food. Additionally, because flies cannot chew, they spit on the food in order to dissolve it. However, flies that land on food for a few seconds, aren't known to transfer enough bacteria to cause diseases like cholera or typhoid.
