The 'curse of 35' phrase emerged in China’s job market after professionals faced age discrimination upon turning 35. The Chinese companies' hiring trends are responsible for this, as most of them capped their maximum hiring age at 35. To tackle the discrimination problem, China has raised the upper limit of hiring age for civil service positions from 35 to 43.
