What is 'Sutak Kaal' observed during Blood Moon?

'Sutak Kaal' begins around nine hours before a lunar or solar eclipse. During this, people avoid auspicious activities and temples even close their gates as the atmosphere is considered unstable and inauspicious, as per Hindu traditions. Due to today's total lunar eclipse or 'Blood Moon', Badrinath, Kedarnath and other related temples closed their gates at around 12:30 pm.
