A fatwa is a formal religious opinion given by a qualified Islamic scholar, known as mufti, in response to a question concerning Islamic law. It's often misunderstood as a punishment, ban or order calling for action against someone. Fatwas address matters concerning fasting, marriage and finance, among others. Earlier, a fatwa was issued against Aamir Khan for marrying Gauri Spratt.
