A heat dome occurs when strong, high-pressure atmospheric conditions trap hot ocean air like a lid or cap, creating vast areas of sweltering heat under the dome. On Tuesday, Canada experienced its highest-ever recorded temperature at 49.5℃. Over 200 deaths have been reported so far amid a record-breaking heatwave in Canada and northwestern US.
