What is a penumbral lunar eclipse?

In a penumbral lunar eclipse, only the more diffuse outer shadow of Earth, the penumbra, falls on the moon's face. A penumbral lunar eclipse is comparatively difficult to observe than a total or a partial lunar eclipse. This year's first lunar eclipse, a penumbral, will occur on March 25 and will be observed in parts of Americas.
