Alpha-gal syndrome, caused by tick bites, is an illness that leads to allergic reactions from eating red meat, which includes the meat of cows, pigs or goats. The symptoms include nausea, hives, diarrhoea, cough, etc. It is estimated that around 4,50,000 people in the US have been affected by the syndrome, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.
