What is bubonic plague and what are its symptoms?

Bubonic plague is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis. The plague spreads to humans or animals through bite from an infected flea or by contact with animal sick with the disease. Its symptoms include fever, headache, chills, weakness and swollen, painful lymph nodes (called buboes). It led to death of millions in Europe in 14th century.
