The Dam Safety Act, which came into effect on December 30, 2021, aims to prevent dam-related disasters by establishing a comprehensive framework for surveillance, inspection, operation, and maintenance of specified dams. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said they will replace the Act with their own legislation. They alleged Centre was trying to use the law to exercise control over Punjab dams.
