First bite syndrome is a condition in which a person experiences pain in the mouth when taking first few bites of a meal. The pain is often described as a spasm or cramping sensation. However, it usually fades as eating continues. This syndrome typically affects one side of the face and commonly occurs after head or neck surgeries or treatment.
