Germany has introduced a three-year 'Freelance Visa' allowing eligible people to "work independently in the country without an employer". Those on the long-term visa can also apply for residence permit. The visa is open for teachers, journalists, translators, therapists, engineers, artists, lawyers, etc, as long as they have a professional license and proof of financial means.
