Russia reported the world's first case of a bird flu virus strain H5N8 infecting humans via birds. H5N8 is a subtype of the influenza A virus that causes flu-like symptoms in birds and poultry and is deadly for them. Reported in poultry in Russia, Europe, China, the Middle East and North Africa in recent months, it's not lethal for humans.
