What is haemoglobin and why is it important for babies?
short by / on Monday, 28 April, 2025
Haemoglobin is a red blood cell protein which transports oxygen from the lungs to the body. In babies, there has to be adequate haemoglobin because their bodies and brains develop very fast. When haemoglobin levels are low, it cannot deliver enough oxygen into the body. Lack of oxygen may make them tired, refuse food, look pale, have slower development and experience frequent infections.
