What is helicopter parenting?

The term "helicopter parenting" is used for overprotective and controlling parenting. The term "helicopter parent" was used in Haim Ginott's 1969 book 'Between Parent & Teenager', when a teen reportedly told him that his mother watched over him like a helicopter. A US government website said that helicopter parenting may trigger anxiety and depression among children.
