The Japanese government said around 15 lakh people of working age have completely withdrawn from society in a phenomenon called 'Hikikomori'. People experiencing it spend most of their days confined to their rooms/homes for prolonged periods of time. This type of social isolation may lead to mental health problems and make it difficult to find work or form relationships.
