What is hungry bone syndrome?

Hungry Bone Syndrome (HBS) is a rare condition that can occur after parathyroid surgery. Once the overactive gland is removed, calcium-starved bones rapidly absorb calcium from the blood, causing a sudden drop in calcium levels. Symptoms include cramps, tingling, and fatigue. Treatment involves calcium and vitamin D supplements, with recovery taking days to months.
