US President Donald Trump listed "non-tariff cheating" practices, naming "Japan's bowling ball test" as one. In 2018, Trump claimed that Japan uses the test to keep American cars out of its market. He said, "They take a bowling ball from 20 feet in the air and drop it on the car's hood. If the hood dents, the car doesn't qualify."
