What is King Charles' role in appointing Rishi Sunak as UK PM?

As head of state, it's the monarch's duty to appoint the Prime Minister who leads the UK government. The King is guided by constitutional conventions, however, he can seek advice from the outgoing PM or select political leaders before calling upon the new leader. King Charles III received Rishi Sunak at Buckingham Palace and requested him to form the government.
