The plane involved in the collision with a US Army helicopter was a CRJ-700 commercial airliner. The crashed plane was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members, travelling from Kansas to Washington DC's Reagan National Airport. The military aircraft was identified as a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter. It collided with the regional jet being operated by American Airlines.
