Learned helplessness is when a person, after repeatedly trying to improve a negative situation, loses hope and stops trying because they eventually believe that their actions are futile. According to Dr. Sarthak Dave, it occurs after repeated exposure to uncontrollable adverse events, leading to a sense of powerlessness. It can lead to depression and increase ongoing mental health issues.
