What is maladaptive daydreaming?

As per Harvard University, maladaptive daydreaming happens when a person engages in long bouts of daydreaming, sometimes even hours, to cope with a problem. This condition is common in young adults and abuse victims. The National Library of Medicine said maladaptive daydreamers use imaginative strategy to symbolise "dissociated emotional experiences that are difficult to integrate into life".
