What is misophonia?

Misophonia is a common disorder characterised by the experience of strong negative emotions of anger and anxiety in response to certain everyday sounds, such as those generated by other people eating, drinking, and breathing. It typically develops in childhood or early adolescence. Other examples of such sounds include nails being dragged across a chalkboard and constant dripping sound of water.
