What is NRI, OCI, and PIO and what is the difference between them?

An NRI (Non-Resident Indian) is an Indian citizen living abroad, which an OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) is a foreign citizen with Indian roots who holds lifelong visa rights in India. The PIO (Person of Indian Origin) category was merged with OCI in 2015. While NRIs can vote and hold Indian passports, OCIs cannot.
