US economist Richard Thaler has been awarded the 2017 Nobel Prize in Economics for his work on Nudge Theory, a behavioural science concept which incorporates psychological assumptions into analysis of economic decision-making. By exploring the consequences of limited rationality, social preferences, and lack of self-control, the theory suggests small incentives can avoid bad economic decisions.
