What is progeria, also known as 'Benjamin Button' disease?

Progeria, or Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome, is a rare genetic condition that causes children to age rapidly. Children diagnosed with the disease begin showing signs by the age of one or two and have an average life expectancy of 13.5 years. It's also known as the 'Benjamin Button' disease. Recently, the longest-living survivor of progeria, Sammy Basso, passed away aged 28.
