What is projective identification in psychology?

Projective identification is a person unconsciously disowning a difficult emotion and attributing it to someone else. Through their behaviour, they influence the other person to experience or express that emotion. Dr Sarthak says, it is usually an unconscious defence against emotional pain rather than a deliberate act. Recognising it can improve self-awareness, communication, and relationship.
