Sammoo village of Himachal's Hamirpur doesn't celebrate Diwali, a tradition it has followed for many centuries due to Sati's curse. According to locals, a pregnant woman was preparing for Diwali when her soldier husband's body was brought home. Overcome with grief, she threw herself into his cremation fire after cursing the village that it would never celebrate Diwali again.
