Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 allows the US Trade Representative to probe unfair, discriminatory trade practices by individual countries that harm US commerce. If such practices are confirmed, President can impose tariffs, with no fixed expiration. After Supreme Court blocked Donald Trump's tariffs, the administration launched new country-specific investigations under Section 301.
