What is shift work sleep disorder?

Shift work sleep disorder is a circadian rhythm disorder affecting people working non-traditional hours. It causes excessive sleepiness during work and insomnia during sleep times because work schedules conflict with body's natural sleep-wake cycle. Symptoms include fatigue, difficulty concentrating and reduced alertness. It's typically diagnosed when symptoms persist for at least three months.
