What is SPF in sunscreen?
short by Daisy Mowke / on Thursday, 13 February, 2025
SPF is a measure of how much UV radiation is required to produce sunburn on protected skin (i.e. in presence of sunscreen) relative to amount of solar energy required to produce sunburn on unprotected skin. Sunburn protection increases as SPF value increases. SPF does not inform consumers about the time that can be spent in the sun without getting sunburn.
