Suppression, a conscious effort to block distressing thoughts, allows us to focus on tasks and revisit the thoughts later to address them. According to psychiatrist Dr. Sarthak Dave, suppression is considered a mature defense mechanism that prevents further damage to self and to others from the crisis.
