The increments rolled out for government employees under the 8th Pay Commission may be decided by a new '3,490-calorie' formula, Mint reported. The formula links the pay revision to the costs of essential food items, such as milk, vegetables, and cereals, required to meet the prescribed caloric intake of 3,490 calories. Earlier Pay Commissions considered caloric intake of 2,700 calories.
