What is the 'chicken's neck' & why is it strategically important to India?

'Chicken's neck', also called 'Siliguri corridor', is a narrow piece of land connecting northeastern states with the rest of India. The corridor is located in West Bengal and is only 20km wide at its narrowest point. It's called 'chicken's neck' due to its geographical shape and is strategically important as its blockage could cut northeastern states from rest of India.
